Evaluating the effect of corrosion on shear-critical RC beams by integrated NDT

Integrated non-destructive testing (NDT) method consisting of acoustic emission (AE) and digital image correlation (DIC) was used to monitor evaluate the load-behaviour shear-critical reinforced concrete beams subjected corrosion. Measurement data in forms mechanical load, deflection, surface strain AE signals were processed collectively analysed facilitate interpretation damage development change structural behaviour a more comprehensive manner. Results show that when corrosion level increases, failure mode changes from shear flexure, leading an increase beam ductility. The steel-concrete bond deterioration caused internal force transfer mechanism loaded, as indicated by DIC maps b-value analysis. NDT demonstrates potential intuitively quantitatively indicate RC specimen.
